When We Feel Blah…

A tear leaks out when I realize I missed my morning quiet time again. I pull the covers over my head as my mind reels.

Jesus must be disappointed in me.

He must shake his head in disbelief as I press the snooze button one too many times.

I use my falling short moment as a measuring stick for my worth; a measure of intimacy with Christ.

My personal need for perfection, order, and harmony are shattered.  I’m too hard on myself.

Maybe you can relate?

I think, “I guess I can’t have any fellowship with Christ today since I didn’t get up and read my Bible.” It’s as if I stepped into a courtroom, tried, and convicted myself. So I give up for the moment.

Some days, I live as if His blessing is based on my performance: my performance never to miss a quiet time; my performance to follow and serve Him without fail. I’m reminded that it’s not about my performance at all ~ it’s about His performance on my behalf.

Instead of wasting performance driven energy, Jesus says to eliminate the busy and rest.

Come to me all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light,” Matthew 11:28-30.

In Matthew Jesus says we’re to learn from him, be his disciple, and we will find rest. Sweet grace is given here for those who sleep through the alarm clock. I mean, if we were perfect jump-out-of-our-beds-on-time kind of girls, there wouldn’t be much of a learning curve, right?

It’s the falling short times when Jesus leads us in the right direction; when He tells us, “I’m not disappointed in you, I delight in you.”

When we come into the yolk with Christ, it’s no longer about us straining to live the Christian life. It’s about discovering rest as we relax and follow Him. It’s about going to Christ and allowing Him to enable us, empower us to live a life of obedience and holiness.

It’s something we can’t do without the Holy of Holies.

It’s all by grace.

Everything is grounded in the grace of Christ.

Be assured, sweet sister, the day we enter the presence of God forever, Jesus will stand on our behalf and say, “This Jesus-girl is in the yolk with me.”

That’s what I want, don’t you?

So let’s cut back on the striving and concentrate on the resting….that’s where we’ll find the true fellowship our hearts were created to experience.

Kelli,

I can so relate to this, I think God is disappointed in me because I didn’t pray for certain amount of time, or because I didn’t read my bible that day, I try and convict myself. Thank you for writing this and sharing this encouragement, to know that I am not alone.

Blessings to you.

I love this post, Kelli. I think you really hit on what so many of us struggle with when we think we need to perform within certain guidelines and rules.

This is just want I needed to hear today… I’ve been beating myself up pretty good lately. It’s not about what I do… only about what He did. I guess what I turmoil over is His reflection showing up in me… in my reactions. I struggle in accepting His grace in these cases… I SO want to be like Him. Jesus… can the day come any quicker?! Thank you sweetest of friends!

DOn’t beat yourself up sis, we can be our own worst enemy at times, God does not get mad or disappointed the way we think He does. I know my husband reminds me of this many times because I will beat myself up and we know it’s the enemy who is making us feel guilty because that does not come from God. We need to make a made up mind not to let the enemy make us feel this way. and when he comes with those words we need to rebuke him back from where he crawled out of..AMEN

I also believe that it is possible and for those expecting to hear and truly listening, are more likely to be spoken

Thanks for sharing… Brings me to tears reading “He isn’t disappointed in us, He delights in us.” How amazing that He finds delight in someone so frail and prone to mistakes.
